Privacy policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
- We collect what you tell us to find you a marriage partner, and we never sell it.
- Your phone number, email, last name and payment details are never shown to other members.
- Religion, genotype and Private Circle membership are sensitive. We only use them with your consent, to match you, and you can remove them at any time.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account.
1. Who we are
NaijaSinglesConnect ("NSC", "we", "us") is a matchmaking service for marriage-minded singles, available at naijasinglesconnect.com. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the guidance of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). If you live in the UK or European Union, we also respect your rights under the UK and EU GDPR.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: first and last name, email address, phone number, password (stored only in a scrambled, non-reversible form).
- Profile answers: gender, date of birth, where you live, nationality and Nigerian heritage, state of origin and LGA, qualification and occupation, marital status, children and whether you want them, relationship intent, preferred age range and location, the kind of partner you hope for, deal-breakers, an "about me" description and up to three photos.
- Sensitive answers: religion, denomination and place of worship, genotype, and, only if you choose to join, Private Circle membership. See section 3.
- Payment records: your payment reference and the receipt you upload. We don't receive or store card details.
- Messages and activity: introduction requests, messages with other members and our support team, reports you make, and people you block.
Information collected automatically
- Technical details our hosting providers record to run and secure the service, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of each request.
- Whether you have read a conversation, so we can show unread counts.
We don't use advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers.
3. Sensitive information
The NDPA treats information about religious belief and health as sensitive personal data. On NSC this means your religion, your genotype and your Private Circle membership (the Private Circle is an optional space for members living with HIV).
- Our legal basis is your explicit consent. You give it by entering this information or by choosing to join the Private Circle. Each is optional, though leaving some out means we can match you less accurately.
- Religion and genotype are used to match you and to flag genotype pairings that carry a risk of sickle cell disease. Other approved members you are matched with can see your religion and genotype; your place of worship is only shown after you both accept an introduction.
- Private Circle membership is stored separately from your profile. It is never shown to members outside the circle, never included in emails, notifications or analytics, and is visible only to other circle members you are matched with and to the members of our review team who need it.
- You can withdraw consent at any time by changing or removing these answers, or by leaving the Private Circle from your profile. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew.
4. How we use your information
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Creating your account, confirming your email and letting you sign in | To provide the service you asked for (contract) |
| Reviewing your profile, photos and payment before you are approved | Contract, and our legitimate interest in keeping the community safe and genuine |
| Suggesting matches and showing how compatible you are | Contract; explicit consent for religion, genotype and the Private Circle |
| Introductions and messages between members | Contract |
| Investigating reports, preventing fraud and enforcing our Terms of use | Legitimate interests and legal obligations |
| Sending service emails such as codes, password resets and approval updates | Contract |
| Keeping payment records | Legal obligation (tax and accounting) |
We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. Matching only changes the order and selection of suggestions; a person on our team decides whether your profile is approved.
5. Who can see what
| Information | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Email, phone number, last name, date of birth, payment details | Only you and our team. Never other members. |
| First name, age, city, faith, intent, work, family details, genotype, about me | Approved members you are eligible to match with. If you choose "Initials only", only your initials are shown until you accept an introduction. |
| Photos | Approved members you are eligible to match with, unless you choose "Without photographs" or "Initials only", in which case only people whose introduction you accept. |
| Place of worship | Only members whose introduction you accept. |
| Messages | You, the other member in the conversation, and our team when investigating a report. |
| Private Circle membership | Other circle members you are matched with, and our review team. Nobody else. |
Members who aren't approved, people outside NSC and search engines can't see profiles. You can block any member, after which neither of you can see the other.
7. Storage outside Nigeria
Some of our service providers store and process data on servers outside Nigeria, for example in the European Union or the United States. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards the NDPA allows, such as contractual commitments from the provider to protect your data to a standard at least as high as Nigerian law requires.
8. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your profile and messages so the service works.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos and Private Circle membership, and remove you from other members' matches, within 30 days. Messages you sent may remain visible to the other member in that conversation unless you ask us to remove them.
- Payment records are kept for up to 6 years for tax and accounting purposes.
- Reports and safety records may be kept for up to 2 years, to stop people who broke our rules from returning.
- Accounts that never finish sign-up are deleted after 12 months.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Correct anything inaccurate. Most of it you can edit yourself in your dashboard.
- Delete your account and personal information.
- Withdraw consent for sensitive information at any time.
- Object to or restrict how we use your information.
- Data portability: receive your data in a common electronic format.
- Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to your local data protection authority if you live outside Nigeria.
To use any of these rights, message our team from your dashboard or email support@naijasinglesconnect.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. We aim to respond within 30 days.
10. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), scrambled passwords, database rules that stop members from reading each other's private details, private storage for payment receipts with links that expire, and limited team access to sensitive information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you don't use anywhere else. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the NDPC as the law requires.
11. Cookies and browser storage
NSC doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember small settings. Our hosting and font providers may record standard technical information when your browser loads the site. You can clear this storage in your browser settings at any time, which will sign you out.
12. Age limit
NSC is only for people aged 21 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 21 has an account, please tell us and we will remove it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as NSC grows. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in your dashboard before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
14. Contact and complaints
Questions about privacy, or a request about your data: email support@naijasinglesconnect.com or message our team from your dashboard.
If you're not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).
